The current rail line to and from Rochdale via Oldham will be converted to support the new Metrolink tram service.
Rochdale is served by trains from Halifax and Bradford and these currently suffer from crowding at peak times. The Department for Transport is committed to providing additional capacity on trains by adding extra carriages for peak services and, where necessary, extending platforms to accommodate them.
As part of the proposals, Castleton, Rochdale and Smithy Bridge stations will be refurbished and car parking improved at Mills Hill and Rochdale.
