This website sets out how the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) will spend up to £3 billion on improvements to public transport, cycling and walking, and the use of our road network, along with detailed information on the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) congestion charging proposals for drivers.
The Department for Transport has approved proposals made under the Transport Innovation Fund for a major investment in public transport, funded by a combination of Government Grant and income from a weekday peak-time only congestion charge.
A charge would only be introduced when at least 80% of the transport improvements are in operation – 2013 at the earliest. We want to hear your views. Formal consultation is now underway and every comment we receive will inform the final content of the scheme. A Greater Manchester wide referendum on the proposals has been confirmed by AGMA. It will be held by postal ballot with papers to be returned by 11 December.
